National Apprenticeship Week - Kelly Moss, Trainee Quantity Surveyor

Kelly began with Briggs & Forrester Special Projects 5 years ago as a purchasing administrator. After working in the position for two years, Kelly was offered a technical apprenticeship.

“As a purchasing administrator I would be inputting codes day to day and wondering how the parts that I was ordering worked within a building. As part of my training I was offered a 3 day placement at BSS and this is where my interests peaked and I knew that I wanted to pursue a career within the construction industry.”

“An apprenticeship has been the best option for me, I enjoy the hands on working environment, and seeing all of the hard work come to life in a building is very rewarding.”

“The biggest challenge I have faced during my apprenticeship has been which department to choose! I really enjoyed learning it all, spending 4 months in each department understanding the role they play in the overall project process. It was through learning all the different aspects that made me realise that quantity surveying was the career path I wanted to pursue.”

Kelly is currently in her first year of her BSC (Hons) Quantity Surveying degree. It’s a distance learning course which she is due to complete in 2022.“I am excited to become a chartered surveyor and to continue to progress and develop my learning in the future.”
