National Apprenticeship Week - Trainee Energy Assessors

Sam Harrison began his apprenticeship with Briggs & Forrester Low Energy Consultancy (LEC) in 2014. He discovered LEC through a local careers office.

“I was keen to receive paid practical on-the-job training in combination with classroom-based study which has allowed me to acquire new skills whilst being rewarded financially.”

He always had a strong interest in construction, which was influenced by programs such as Grand Designs.

“It was not until my early 20’s that I was adamant it was something I wanted to pursue. The biggest challenges I have faced to date include learning to balance my working day alongside study time, and developing skills in organising and prioritising workloads.

“It’s been great working alongside a supportive team, and I look forward to acquiring further knowledge and expertise in software development with the option of further education in the future.”

Tom joined Low Energy Consultancy in August 2017, whilst studying for his Diploma in Construction Management at college. He was keen to continue his education, in a hands on working environment.

“I found out about this apprenticeship through NCN resourcing, and they organised my interview with Adam Alexander.I was at Moulton College completing my Level 3 Extended Diploma in Construction Management. I started looking for an apprenticeship during my second year at Moulton College so that I had a job lined up after finishing my course. “

Tom has learned to fit in study alongside a full time job, and developing skills in time management with work schedules. He is on track to completing his college course and looks forward to progress in a career in the field.
